The iconic horror film by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez is getting a reboot. The Blair Witch Project became popular for its “non-standard” cinematography and popularity. Upon its release in 1999, it became an obsession and it soon passed in cinema history as a cult film. Was it because of its marketing campaign, that resulted in full cinema halls around the States and even in Cannes? Maybe it was because of the innovative production and story treatment. There is a lot we can say about the Blair Witch Project and its success.

What has taken the internet nowadays is the news that this iconic film is getting a reboot. The name behind the project is Jason Blum. For those who don’t know who Blum is, we should note that many consider him a horror film master. His rich curriculum includes production of titles such as Get Out, The Purge franchise and Whiplash, among others. The approach is similar to this of The Blair Witch Project, since he too likes making low-budget movies which generate high profit. His Paranormal Activity is proof to this.

Lionsgate announced the news at CinemaCon, the annual movie theater trade show that’s currently taking place in Las Vegas. The reboot will mark Blum’s agreement with the company for a series of remakes which will include famous horror films. He will work with producer Roy Lee, who produced the reboot in 2016.

“I’m very grateful to Adam and the team at Lionsgate for letting us play in their sandbox. I’m a huge admirer of ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ which brought the idea of found footage horror to mainstream audiences and became a true cultural phenomenon,” said Blum. “I don’t think there would have been a ‘Paranormal Activity’ had there not first been a ‘Blair Witch,’ so this feels like a truly special opportunity and I’m excited to see where it leads.”
